Like so many before us we fell in love with Sri Lanka’s surf, culture, food & climate on our regular jaunts to the island so in 2013 we began hosting surf & yoga holidays here in Sri Lanka offering our guests a glimpse into the tropical soulful surfing life that we cherish so much.

We offer a particularly special and, well, erm, soulful surf, yoga & therapy experience for our guests. With more experts on hand than most and more attention to detail than many, we really hope you’ll get what you need. Be it relaxation, progression or rehabilitation. To meet new people, to hang with your loved one, to hang with the family. And, of course, if you want to just laze in the pool with a drink that’s good too. We’re not too serious and definitely not too worthy… Oh, and you can enjoy getting to know the whole heap of life-affirmingly brilliant people on our team making it happen too.

Due to Covid-19 we were forced to leave the Sri Lanka property we’ve occupied for the last five years or so. We’ve used the time wisely and re-evaluated what we offer and… pivoted. We realised the all-inclusive weekly retreats we ran in Sri Lanka didn’t suit all of our guests. We listened.

From winter 2021 we are offering two kinds of holiday.

  • A boutique, beach-front hotel with a flexible, build-your-own-holiday kind of vibe
  • Tranquil, all-inclusive, week-long, luxury surf & yoga retreats in a stunning new hilltop eco-lodge.

What’s the difference?

Whichever option you go for, you’ll be getting the same amount of love from us. Our Bed & Breakfast. You choose the rest hotel is right on the shoreline, it’s simple and flexible encouraging you to custom build your holiday as short or long as you want, adding surf, yoga, massage and meals as you see fit. Whilst our Luxury Surf & Yoga Retreat is just 10 mins inland on a tea estate and has everything you could possibly need, all taken care of by us and included in the price, in jaw-dropping, tranquil, hilltop surroundings.

Fancy your own space?

If these two choices aren’t quite enough for you, our four-bedroom jungle villa, Awimbawei House, is also available to rent year-round.  The villa is an open-plan modern tropical building nestling deep in the jungle, yet only 8 minutes from the coast and 10 minutes from the nearest town, Ahangama.

Designed by Soul & Surf founders, Ed & Sofie, the building is an exercise in indoor/outdoor living, looking out and surrounded by the sounds, sights and smells of jungle whilst being clean, simple and comfortable.

Good Stuff

We set up Soul & Surf with the intention to do something positive, however small and insignificant it may seem. So alongside our aim of giving our guests a dose of health, inspiration and good times we are committed to giving something back on three different scales; on our doorstep with our surf club for village kids, locally with our support for the charity SISP in Kerala and globally with our commitment to donate 1% For The Planet to Surfers Against Sewage.

Mossy Earth

We’ve had a lo-ot of time to reflect of late, and something we have been battling with for years is the question of how we, as a travel company, can take positive ethical action, without greenwashing or empty words.

We are committed to taking measures to improve our carbon footprint, and amidst all of this are taking the first steps in a process to change the way we do business. We have a way to go, but one of these commitments is our new partnership with Mossy Earth – we will plant trees for every holiday booked with us, included in the price of the holiday.

There is no box to tick, no opting in or out. It’s all done for you.

Back in Manchester now and its hard to believe two days ago i was swimming in an infinity pool overlooking Koggala lake, after an amazing surf followed by breakfast whilst watching monkeys swinging in the trees, looking forward to lunch, followed by a yoga session on the veranda, then another surf, a beer at the […]
