Jane in her element

Who are you?
My name is Jane, I am 33 years old. 4 1/2 years ago I happened to move to Portugal by accident. Covid had hit and like the water flows I just flowed with it and stranded here. I am a traveler, home can be anywhere. I love being creative, it clears my active mind. I feel most grounded while being in nature. Listen to the ocean or listen to the sound of rain in a forest. I am doer, I do things, mostly active, always wanting to grow and learn more. I am a community person, at the same time I need time on my own to reflect and digest life. I am passionate about yoga and I absolutely adore dogs.

What does Soul mean to you?

For me it means experiencing life in a human body.

A soul for me is energy, a life force that keeps you moving and growing. But  also connected to everything around you. The quiet part in us that just knows what's right. The unbroken center beneath all the fears and noise. The place where beauty, sorrow and love all meet. The essence, who we are beyond roles and labels. The bridge between us and something greater.

Tell us a little bit about your relationship to yoga.

Yoga came to me when I found myself in a very dark time of my life. I never had heard about it before but my friend was a practitioner and took me to a class with him many years ago. At first it felt a bit strange to me, this audible breathing and the movements. But further in the class I found myself reconnecting and to feel my body again. It was almost like being in trance, which I know now it was a meditative state. I felt at peace in the storm of my life at this hour in this class.

I enjoyed the community, practicing together, the feeling of being a part of a community and being held. No judgment. Everyone was on their own path, their own journey, still shared in the same room. Practicing yoga taught me to be more patient with myself and others. Every practice is different and that's okay.

Tell us a little bit about your classes for our Soul & (not) Surf week.

When I step into the space of teaching yoga, I bring my whole self, heart, presence, and intention. Each class is more than a sequence of poses, it is an invitation to slow down, to feel, and to reconnect with the body, with the breath, and with the deeper layers of being.

I hold space gently, with warmth and sensitivity, allowing everyone to show up exactly as they are. I bring an intuitive approach, listening closely to the energy in the room, guiding my students not only through movement but also toward deeper awareness and inner stillness. I aim to create a safe, nurturing atmosphere where people feel seen, supported, and encouraged to explore their own rhythm. My classes are grounded in mindfulness, breath, and the wisdom of nature. Inspired by the elements, seasons, and cycles of life, I love weaving in stories, symbolisms, and gentle philosophical reflection, little invitations to connect the physical with the emotional and spiritual. I wanna offer a space for softness, for letting go, and for deep release, not just in the muscles, but in the heart.

I bring my own journey into the room, my growth, my healing, and my reverence for this path. And I share it with openness, not to teach answers, but to offer companionship in the unfolding. Yoga, for me, is not about achieving, it’s about allowing. And that is what I bring to my students. The permission to pause, to feel, and to simply be.
