Portugal

Service and Surf Host – a payment in kind worker

We are hiring for our volunteer program and are looking for like minded people to come and join us for the upcoming season. 

The role is mainly guest-facing as well as supporting the management in all things from manning the cafe and bar, to serving and hosting meals, helping on surf lessons and spending time with our guests as well as keeping the place looking fantastic and keeping the vibes high.

We’re looking for people who are hard working with hospitality experience, professional and proactive. You’ll be a good communicator and a great team player – and, of course, love your fair share of yoga and surf.

This is a non-salaried role which is for a duration of 2 months  and would suit someone who is keen to experience living and working in a different country. Although you won’t receive a monthly income, the benefits are substantial if you take advantage of the free surf lessons, equipment hire, yoga classes as well as food and accommodation in a shared tent or caravan. There are push bikes available so you have a bit of freedom while you are here.

This role is for two months in the 2025 season (between April and November.) Please mention in your application which two months would be your preference.

Service Host at Quinta Agave – a payment in kind worker

We’re looking for kind, capable people to join us at Quinta Agave, our sister site just down the road from Soul & Surf, for the rest of the season.

In return for helping us take care of the place, welcoming guests, handling check-ins and check-outs and keeping in touch with our housekeeping team, we’ll offer accommodation at Quinta Agave, plus the chance to join surf lessons, yoga sessions and shared meals through Soul & Surf.

It’s a great opportunity for someone who wants to spend some time living and working in Portugal, getting involved in a small, soulful project. You’ll need to be someone who’s happy to work independently, enjoys welcoming people, and ideally has a little experience in hospitality or hosting.

This could be suitable for an individual, a couple of friends looking to travel together.

We’re looking for:

  • A warm and friendly communicator

  • Someone proactive and happy to take responsibility

  • A good team player, even when the team is small

  • Although a nike is provided, Ideally, someone with a car as Quinta Agave is about 13km from Soul & Surf, so having your own transport makes life easier to make the  most of the benefits on offer.

This is a volunteer role (non-salaried) for up to three months, starting from July through to the end of September. While there’s no wage, the exchange includes:

  • Accommodation at Quinta Agave

  • Surf lessons and equipment hire

  • Yoga classes

  • Shared meals with the Soul & Surf team

Social Host – a payment in kind worker

Soul & Surf is seeking the services of a sociable, motivated, and people-focused volunteer host to support the day-to-day running of our beachside retreat in Sri Lanka during the season.

We’re looking for someone who is dynamic, motivated and great with people and who is a committed team player. You’ll bring to the role bags of energy and a sense of fun, while also being reliable and well organised. 

The successful candidate will help us bring the Soul & Surf vibe to life – welcoming guests, joining communal meals and helping create those little moments of magic that make a stay unforgettable. This role is 100% about people – being present, being kind, and helping everyone feel at home.

Essentials:

  • Confident, friendly, and great with people from all walks of life.
  • Comfortable hosting group meals, chatting with guests, and joining events.
  • Highly organised, punctual, and reliable.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a small, busy team.
  • An interest in surf, yoga, community living or mindful hospitality is a big plus.
  • Experience travelling or living in developing countries is a bonus.

Soul & Surf Sri Lanka is seeking the services of a motivated, surf-loving and social media-savvy volunteer to support our board rental operation and social media channels. 

This is a hybrid role for someone who’s equally happy chatting to guests about surfboards and creating great Instagram stories that reflect the vibe of our ocean-side café and retreat. We’re looking for someone who’s reliable, organised and good with people – a team player with strong attention to detail and a great eye for capturing the moment.

The successful candidate will support the surf team by managing our board rentals and tracking usage, while also helping our communications team by posting daily content to our stories from The Canteen and Retreat. The ideal volunteer will be confident, responsible, and bring energy and positivity to the team.

Essentials:

  • Confident, friendly, and great with people from all walks of life.
  • Experience with surfing and board handling.
  • Strong Instagram skills — especially stories, tone, and visual consistency.

Camp Manager

We’re on the hunt for an energetic and switched on camp manager to help us manage Soul & Surf in Kerala between October 2025 and April 2026 for the full season.  

You will be responsible for supporting the General Manager with daily hotel operations and services. Responsible for ensuring guest satisfaction, staff training and the smooth operation of the hotel. You will tend to all facets of the hotel operations in the absence of the General Manager. 

You will be leading a team of local and foreign staff to be versatile, helpful, thorough, efficient and friendly ensuring the smooth running of the hotel service.

You will be a main point of contact for our kitchen, service and housekeeping team. You will therefore need to know, in detail, all aspects of Soul & Surf’s operation standards. 

The trick with this role is the marriage of two cultures. You will be in the middle position to ensure that all staff, both local and foreign work to the same level whilst being culturally sensitive. You will maintain a positive working environment and team in the kitchen and service departments so that every staff member is comfortable and morale is not affected.

Surf Photographer

Soul & Surf India is looking for a professional, passionate, and sociable freelance surf photographer to join our team for the upcoming 25/26 season between 1st November – 30th April.

We’re looking for someone who is frothing about surf photography and culture, and who can creatively capture the vibe of a Soul & Surf stay – both in the water and around our space. As a key team member, you’ll be responsible for capturing and curating photo packages for guests, presenting your work throughout the week, and contributing regularly to our social media and marketing content.

You’ll need to be confident working independently, highly organised, and great with people – not just behind the lens. You’ll also act as a welcoming host during mealtimes and events, building relationships with guests to help sell your photo packages and enhance the overall Soul & Surf experience.

Essentials:

  • A solid portfolio of surf and lifestyle photography.
  • Your own SLR camera gear, waterproof housing, and editing setup.
  • Strong swimming ability and confidence shooting in the ocean in all conditions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Reliable, professional, and self-motivated with great attention to detail.
  • Prior experience working and living in developing countries is a big plus.
