Surf Photographer/Videographer

May 20th 2016 —October 15th 2016

We’re looking for experienced surf photographers from anywhere in the world with an entrepreneurial attitude. The salary is commission based and in our experience photographers who engage with our guests at meal times, who arrange photo viewing sessions throughout the week and put packages together to show at our film nights do much better than those who sit back and wait. It’s up to you. We also require a couple of times a week for you to film guests for video correction sessions in conjunction with the head surf coach and to provide shots of daily life at Soul Surf for our website and social media. In exchange we offer accommodation in a shared room, staff meals, yoga lessons, industry standard salary and time in the water.

As a key team member you will be required to act as a host throughout a guests stay, attending meals and events and helping your head surf coach to get things done about the retreat.

Experience of working and living in developing countries is a distinct advantage, experience in India even more so. Current surf coaching qualifications, beach lifeguard and professional liability insurance are a must.

Use the form below to contact us and give us a quick overview paragraph or two with the reasons why you’d be a good fit for Soul & Surf in particular demonstrating a good understanding of us, our ethos and our background, plus attach your CV. If you don’t put all this lot together for us we’ll have to presume you’re not really serious about the position.

What Are The Local Medical Facilities Like?

We are pretty much equidistant, about 30 minutes depending on time of day,  between two pretty good hospitals in Galle and Matara. Although the administration and organisation can be fairly hectic the standard of medical care is good. People tend to visit hospitals for all but the most minor or illnesses.

For very minor issues we have a good English speaking Doctor nearby in Habaraduwa, about 15 minutes from us.

What Voltage And Plugs Do You Use?

Electricity is at 220v in Sri Lanka. Our sockets are universal sockets which take pretty much every international plug type.

Elsewhere in Sri Lanka you find a mix of 3 pin round sockets and 3 pin square, UK-type, sockets.

What Else Is There To Do?

There’s loads to see and do in Sri Lanka, we can’t even begin to list everything you could do on a holiday here. Check Trip Advisor, Lonely Planet and Rough Guides, they’re better than we are at this kind of thing.

But there are some things you could do within in a day, local to us, whilst you’re with us.

  • SUP Trips. You can Whale Watching, mainly from November to April
  • Tea Plantations tour
  • Yala National Safari Park visit (a very long day, but do-able)
  • Galle – historic for town, now a cosmopolitan arty hangout.
  • Sport Fishing trips

Ask us in advance and we can help arrange a day trip or you could tag some extras days before or after your stay with us.
