We’re looking for experienced surf photographers from anywhere in the world with an entrepreneurial attitude. The salary is commission based and in our experience photographers who engage with our guests at meal times, who arrange photo viewing sessions throughout the week and put packages together to show at our film nights do much better than those who sit back and wait. It’s up to you. We also require a couple of times a week for you to film guests for video correction sessions in conjunction with the head surf coach and to provide shots of daily life at Soul Surf for our website and social media. In exchange we offer accommodation in a shared room, staff meals, yoga lessons and time in the water.

As a key team member you will be required to act as a host throughout a guests stay, attending meals and events and helping your head surf coach to get things done about the retreat.

Head of Service - Kerala

October 2017 – February 2018

We’re on the look out for a dynamic, motivated Head of Service to help run our cafe in Kerala next season.

You’ll be leading a team of western & local service staff to be versatile, helpful, thorough, efficient and friendly ensuring the smooth running of the café service whilst assisting the cafe manager in the operation of the cafe. You will also be heavily involved in the implementation of new and exciting menu items, new styling of the café and the ongoing quality control of both the food output and the look & feel of the café.

The role will also vary from managing and motivating the western and local service team, arranging rotas, training new staff, some counter service & waiting tables and assisting the manager in daily cashing up, bill processing, etc.

The trick with this role is the marriage of two cultures. The kitchen crew, café manager and some waiters are Keralan, we also have 2-3 western service assistants. You will be in the tricky middle position to ensure that all service staff work to the same level whilst being culturally sensitive.

You should have had at least 2 years experience in running a cafe, bar or restaurant and ideally have worked in a developing country and be used to the various challenges that come with it.

They cooked her eggs and porridge even when the cafe was closed and generally made us feel so very welcome. This was just what I needed for my first solo trip with […]
